Ugly Mac Beer
Ugly Mac Beer is a French DJ, producer, beatmaker and composer who has been a leading figure in the instrumental hip-hop and turntablism scene since the late 1990s. After beginning his career as the DJ for La Formule alongside Wax Tailor, he quickly developed a distinctive artistic identity shaped by sampling culture, cinema, pop culture and a deep passion for instrumental music.
As the founder of Beatsqueeze Records, he has established himself as one of the most creative producers on the French independent scene. His collaboration with Mister Modo gave birth to the acclaimed project Modonut, whose albums and collaborations with artists including MF Grimm, Kool Keith, Mike Ladd, Guilty Simpson, Psycho Les and DJ D-Styles helped bring their music to audiences far beyond France.
Over the years, Ugly Mac Beer has expanded his creative focus towards music for screen, where his instinct for groove, storytelling and sound design has found a natural home. He has composed several albums for Parigo's original catalogue while continuing to develop his solo career with projects such as BROKEN ILL, where hip-hop, electronic music, post-punk and cinematic textures converge in an increasingly personal and distinctive body of work.
Through every project, Ugly Mac Beer cultivates a unique approach to beatmaking, where sampling, composition and visual storytelling interact with complete creative freedom, resulting in music that is inventive, sophisticated and instantly recognisable.
