The Real Fake MC
The Real Fake MC, born Clyde Kingrap, is an American rapper, MC and songwriter from New Jersey who is now based in France. Inspired by old-school hip-hop pioneers such as Grandmaster Flash, Kurtis Blow and Afrika Bambaataa, he has developed a distinctive musical universe where rap meets P-Funk, Washington D.C. go-go, soul and 1980s funk.
Known for his energetic flow and infectious sense of groove, he champions an organic vision of hip-hop in which live instrumentation, horns, keyboards and basslines are just as important as the lyrics themselves. Since the mid-2000s, he has released numerous EPs, albums and collaborative projects, most notably alongside French producer Patchworks, with whom he has crafted a unique blend of funk, humour and hip-hop culture.
In 2019, he composed Go-Go Funk (Parigo No. 29) for Parigo, a tribute to Washington D.C.'s go-go scene, classic block parties and the pioneering spirit of early hip-hop. Designed for both live performance and music for screen, the album perfectly illustrates his ability to capture the festive, communal energy that defined the genre's earliest days.
Through every project, The Real Fake MC celebrates music that is generous, uplifting and deeply rooted in the tradition of groove, keeping the spirit and energy of live performance at the heart of every composition.
