MODULHATER is the solo project of French composer, producer and musician Thomas Papay. Emerging from the industrial, EBM and techno scenes, he has spent more than two decades developing a distinctive musical universe where analogue synthesizers, vintage drum machines and electronic textures come together to create powerful, dark and deeply cinematic soundscapes.
After exploring industrial and experimental music through his projects Le Diktat and Rope, Thomas Papay launched MODULHATER in 2019 as a return to the roots of techno, acid and EBM. Inspired by the pioneers of Detroit techno and the late-1980s New Beat movement, he has developed a musical language built on machine precision, driving rhythms and meticulous sound design.
His productions have been released on internationally respected labels including Audiotrauma, mau5trap and Beatsqueeze Records. Albums such as Velodrome and Acid Body Music showcase a distinctive artistic identity where raw energy, hypnotic melodies and analogue production combine with remarkable attention to detail. Several of his compositions have been featured in major international productions, including Kleo (Netflix), Tokyo Vice (HBO) and La Luz Más Oscura, while his track Gevaert received a Production Music Award in 2022.
Through MODULHATER, Thomas Papay continues to explore the intersection of electronic heritage and contemporary production, creating immersive compositions that blur the boundaries between club music, cinematic storytelling and music for screen.
