Frédéric Hanak

Frédéric Hanak (1972–2018) was a French musician, producer and composer, widely regarded as one of the leading figures of the experimental electronic underground. Based in Paris, he co-founded the duo dDamage with his brother Jean-Baptiste (JB Hanak) in the late 1990s, creating a true sonic laboratory where hip-hop, electronic music, rock, breakcore and noise converged.

dDamage quickly established itself as one of the most distinctive acts on the French electronic scene. Their music combined raw energy, experimentation and a deeply personal artistic vision, blending saturated machines, fractured rhythms and lo-fi textures into a unique approach to sound creation.

With dDamage, Frédéric Hanak released a prolific catalogue of albums, EPs and original soundtracks, while performing nearly 600 concerts across Europe, Japan and the United States. The duo collaborated with leading figures of the international hip-hop and underground scenes, including La Caution, TTC, MF DOOM, Mike Ladd and Doseone, forging an artistic identity that was as uncompromising in the studio as it was on stage.

His work continues to hold an essential place in the history of experimental electronic music and remains a lasting source of inspiration for both listeners and artists exploring new sonic territories.
