I was introduced to Michael Proksch through another MINDS AND MUSIC composer and I was immediately taken by the simple beauty and strong emotions in Michael's compositions. Born in the ex-DDR, Michael on the one hand had been fortunate in receiving an excellent education at the Carl Maria von Weber musical conservatory in Dresden but at the same time, had been critical of the communist regime he was living in. In 1983 Proksch's attempted escape from the former East Germany to the West ended badly with a prison sentence spanning 18 months. But perhaps this was just one of Michael's life experiences that sculpted him into becoming the true artist, thinker and composer that he is today.
